Those People

Those People

Everyday there are those who serve, give and live for others and go unrecognized for their actions. They don’t ask for glory for what they do or for any acknowledgement, they do it because it is the right thing to do. In the article, The Man in the Water, there is a man who is this type of person. He serves because he knows it is right and he would not ask for anything in return. Down in L.A. there is a large group of people who act in just the same way; they live to serve, not for their self but for others.

The Man in the Water shows us how important it is sometimes to put others before ourselves, even if you have never even met the person. The article tells the story of an aircraft crash into the Potomac River. Four men jumped into the water that day to help rescue the people who were in the plane. Three men reviled their identity to the public but on did not. The man who did not revile his identity chose to be humble that day; he saved peoples lives in return for loosing his. The men in the water realized that if they did not get out of the water on the next helicopter they would die. The three men who reviled there identity got out of the water but the on mystery man stayed and tried to rescue more people, even though he knew that he would die. This man truly sacrificed his life for the other people who crashed; he did not claim any glory for who he was. Through his acts people recognized him even though they did not know who he was. Not many other people are willing to serve in this way those few that do are the real hero’s in our world.

I found some of those invisible hero’s down in L.A., there is an organization in the old L.A. hospital called the Dream Center. 365 days a year, 24 hours a day they are serving the oppressed communities, and people of L.A. They do not try to make it about them at all but they make it about the people and about God. The staff and Short Term Mission groups (S.T.M.’s) work with no pay, and the S.T.M.’s pay to come and do anything that is asked of them, mainly with no complaints. The Dream Center does not ask for anything back from the people of L.A. They’re so many different ways to serve, and to help others through the Dream Center. Two of the opportunities out of more than 200 are, going into the projects to have fun with the children and to hand out food and items that they need. The second is a group that goes throughout L.A. all day and tries to help stop human trafficking, and take some people who are so far in human trafficking that they are in danger, and give them a place to say. Some of the different service projects; such as going into Watts can be life threatening but they still go there are serve because it is making a difference. None of these people volunteering ask for acknowledgement. The Dream Center is know as The Church That Never Sleeps, because they are always doing something all the time. The people live for everyone else and God, putting themselves in danger because the feel that they are doing what is right.

We need to be like the unknown man in the water, and like all the volunteers at the Dream Center. We need to be the kind of people who are going to serve others around us and don’t for anything in return. We always say that we want to change our world for the better but we don’t act on what we say. We need to not just talk about what we want but we need to go and act on it. If we did this imagine what would happen and to us as people and to the world.

Sounds like the Dream Center was an awesome place to go to. I'm also impressed with the guy who gave his life to save others. I don't know if I would be that selfless.
